On Call X Enemy Behind Wall: Cold War 寒戰

been expecting this movie for long

it is supposed to be in cinema 3 weeks back

thank goodness

it lives up to expectations

and gives a “pleasant” surprise towards the ending

well to me it’s a pleasant one

because.. well

let me explain this later

have not seen such attention grabbing

HK cop film for sometimes

and it portrays HK as a pretty lovely city

the iconic Mongkok street

the explosion happened

right in front of :CHOCOOLATE, wow

the Star Ferry Pier and in the ferry itself

the firework cum explosion beside Shangri-La

and the seaview from Nina Tower, I think

another reason for paying full attention

to the movie at all time is because

they speak pretty fast, which I like

and there are loads acronyms being used

C.P. A.C.P.

D.D. = Drunk driving

of course the one we are already familiar with,

like ICAC, SDU, PTU

have to refer to the subtitles at time

but I read subtitles anyway

and finally I know that

eg: 普通法律

it’s actually the legal term “common law”

原來一點都不普通

I understand the plight of translating legal term now

and Stockholm syndrome mentioned by Aarif Lee?

what’s that:

the behavior of kidnap victims who,

over time, become sympathetic to their captors

according to Time

It was first widely recognized after

the Swedish bank robbery where

thieves Jan-Erik Olsson and Clark Olofsson held

four Stockholm bank employees hostage at

gunpoint in a vault for six days in August 1973

also, interestingly

the movie actually links itself back to the

actual Cold War

making use of the speech of Winston Churchill

The Gahering Storm - Winston Churchill

and the one Eddie was reading

at the very ending of the movie

was actually about war between

the Burmese military junta and the people

Shadow Warrior - David Everett

erm..

so the war gonna continue

in a sequel movie

speaking about characters

I don’t really like Aarif Lee’s character in there

Billy Cheung,

too much of “chok”ness

how should I say, too much of self-esteem?

but maybe that’s how that character

should be portrayed

that part where he tried to interrogate

Anthony Leung Kar Fai

but got hammered to the max, instead

is awesome indeed

Gordon Lam Ka-tung

I suspected he is the mole

from the beginning of the movie

so sorry

maybe his characters in Ip Man and Internal Affairs

were too deep-rooted in my mind

Terence Yin doesn’t really have much scenes

because he is more like an IT guy

except a scene of being “abused” by the superior

what a waste

back to the surprise

when I roughly found out the story

and from the official photo released

I was like

so Eddie was one of the “normal” cop

who was on the disappeared EU van

Cold War Eddie Peng

you know HK cop films

in the beginning there would always be some explosion

what if the EU van exploded

just like that

right in the beginning of the movie

then more photos were released

okay, he survived

at least till the part of the ransom video

and the hospital scene with his father

Cold War 寒戰 Eddie Peng 彭于晏 02

and all the related interviews

he was telling the media that

he got only 5 scenes throughout the movie

and what’s more

as expected, dubbed with Cantonese

so basically 5 silence mode scenes of how

he got kidnapped, whacked and injured

and fellow Eddict showed me this

two days back

what??

“willing to shoot even if there are only 3 scenes ”

3 scenes: opening scene, ransom video, hospital,

that’s all??

gosh

I was actually counting in the cinema

but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise indeed

woohoo!!!

because alright it may ruin the suspense

skip the next sentence if you do not want to

he is actually the mastermind behind the whole thing

Eddie baddy

thought he has turned over a new leaf

after all the beatings in Tai Chi Zero & Hero

no way!!

Joe Sir is a more sophisticated baddy

and definitely a less miserable one

now it explains

why all the posters and photos

he has got that penetrating glance

despite being a little cop

Cold War 寒戰 Eddie Peng 彭于晏 08

Cutie turns pyscho!!

好有殺氣

but still cute, though

rally rally!!

best supporting actor 2012/2013

and the 3-weeks delay

enables the better chronological order of catching him

in Tai Chi Zero – Hero then Cold War

which gave so much more satisfaction I think

if it was Tai Chi Zero – Cold War – Hero

probably there would be this utility graph which

plunge down during the third one

can I steal these

it could have make a good shielding screen

Cold War standing display

Cold War II, 2013?

yes, please

Joe Sir behind the scene

that’s the actual Eddie, right

this crew cut is superb

somehow reminded me of Ashin

as what they always say

crew cut is is the best time to

check out whether a guy is really that attractive

I am not sure this is a behind-the-scene

or the actual scene

because looks like he is dancing to me

I realize he liked to pout his lips

whenever he tries to be violent

especially when he puts on boxing gloves

Cold War 寒戰 Eddie Peng 彭于晏 13

last one

thank goodness

there isn’t much dialogue

because the dubbing is pretty weird

this is the first time

I actually feel like watching

a Cantonese movie in Mandarin

since it is original dubbing
