a good good month to commemorate

 

1st July – the Live Musician

the birth of FUGUE DVD on his 26th birthday

 

6th July – Mister Gentleman

defeat amounts to nothing in the end

 

29th July – the great fictionist

combining his music with words of fiction

interconnectedness between characters and songs

which seems real

 

and me as a devotee

whole mind saturated with the tune and the word

notwithstanding, the graphic design

 

as the summer is drawing to an end pretty soon

the DVD and fiction will keep my company

through the already-expected formidable winter

before the new chapter begins which

I have no idea of where the direction is

Unrealistic Loot X Artistic Mood: Look, It’s My Old Lute

spotted the two eye-catching instruments

 

back off after hearing the initial prices

the PiPa-like lute a.k.a. Ruan 阮 for 20,000 RMB

the surf-board-like GuZheng for 25,000 RMB

 

someone got hold of the GuZheng

bargain completed in minutes

4,000 RMB, deal

suddenly forming a crowd

people stopped by to look

as the buyer was counting his stacks of 100RMB bills

 

hey you!!

Your buddy has found his new home.

How much does it take to bring you home then

 

my stalking skill put into real use

following the seller as he sent the GuZheng away

wondering if we could bargain it down

 

he is quite a nice guy

got me to miss call him, so that

we can always call him back,

when we really feel like coming back for the lute

 

my dad put it at 3,000 RMB

but he was saying hey if we call him

it would be difficult to bargain it down

 

bargain rule #3 as mentioned in the previous post

even if it would kill you if

you fail to buy the item

pretend that you don’t really give much thought

and you can always get something else instead

 

we shall wait for him to call us then

and he really did two days after

the calls over international roaming

almost drained my credit

thank goodness we switched to payphone

at a local grocery store

 

the plan of the day totally switched

went down immediately after lunch

item and money changed hand

and he managed to persuade my dad to

get another small item

 

and it left us in a state of poverty

for the rest of the days to come in Beijing

counting on small notes to make end’s meet

 

it gave me loads vanity

while carrying it back to hotel on Metro

and hand-carried it all the way back home

gosh, I could not even play a single tune

such an attention seeker

 

almost afraid that I would get trouble

with the custom offices of both sides

even approached the custom officer to ask in advance

“Do I have to declare this?”

 

back home after the long journey

still figuring out a decent name for her

and should I be attending lesson and where?

 

saw a live performance

impromptu Opera singing in a park

wow… mesmerizing

although I did not have a single clue of

what’s the singing is all about

 

it’s supposed to sound like this

heavenly, if one day I could play this piece

Don’t Grab X Until Bargain’s Met: PJY Flea Market

ideal stop in Beijing on a weekend

Pan Jia Yuan Flea Market (潘家園舊貨市場)

one of the largest in the world

 

some stalls are not really flea market,

strictly speaking

they are full time sellers of

porcelain, paintings, gems, etc etc 

and those on sale are first-hand items

 

it opens on weekdays too

just that the stalls which are opened

could be lesser 

since some sellers are not full timer

especially the authentic flea marketers 

 

tips for flea market shopping

(applicable to any other roadside shopping around too)

 

(i)

walk the whole place to check if

it’s available at other stall,

if it is then it’s a pretty common thing which

you can probably bargain down

 

(ii)

no other way but to go down down and down

do it in a friendly manner

or else some customers do get chased away

for going too far

 

(iii)

even if it would kill you if

you fail to buy the item

pretend that you don’t really give much thought

and you can always get something else instead

 

(iv)

two totally different tactics:

be prepare to walk away or

hang around for a long time until

you get the price right

 

 

a set of items which we own back home

all these while thinking it is probably old

it’s alright, it’s alright

outside the market

near the entrance or across the road

pre-packed rice lunch box is available

the cheapest in Beijng, I found so far

 

stood by the roadside and started eating

while observing the crowd walking in and out

and how the vendors were

half running and keeping their lunch boxes away

whenever guys from the town council approached

Too Much X Sophistication: wEDDing Invitation

was waiting for a fine day

until I get the right mood to watch it

 

hey, watching on board

two in the morning

wasn’t that bad after all

and I went on looping,

half falling asleep

 

until I was yawning right after

touching down at the airport

what, it was just seven in the morning

the day was still long!

 

the storyline

I don’t quite enjoy it

oh come on… it’s too old-school love tragedy

despite the setting being rather contemporary

it’s alright, lets’ move on

 

although the suits and ties

doesn’t quite match the identity of a chef

that’s what I think

 

some looks go well on Eddie

that’s what matter more
